Clark Sustainable Resource Developments Ltd. Appoints David Moffat as Director of Sustainability

Mill Bay, British Columbia, Canada, August 17, 2007— Clark Sustainable Resource Developments Ltd. (CSR Developments), an international firm focused on environmentally responsible development of tropical hardwoods, has appointed David Moffat as director of sustainability, reporting to Wayne Dunn, CSR Developments president and CEO.

Moffat has 10 years of experience addressing environmental and community development issues from NGO, international development agency, and private sector perspectives. As a member of the leadership team, David will be responsible for directing the company’s environmental, social, and community strategies and programs.  He will also play a pivotal role in CSR Developments’ sustainability branding and new business development.

Moffat’s knowledge will prove critical as CSR Developments is working to advance sustainable development in developing countries, beginning with its work in Ghana’s Volta Lake –the first industrial-scale underwater timber harvesting operation ever undertaken.

CSR Developments will commence an environmental and social impact assessment (ESIA) of the proposed Volta Lake operations in October. CSR Developments will ensure the ESIA meets or exceeds World Bank-IFC standards.  Essential components of the ESIA include extensive community engagement and public consultation.  The implementation of the ESIA will be an important part of the company’s commitment to serve the needs of the environment and people while raising capital to implement its vision.

"David’s background in business, community development and natural resources management is ideal for leading CSR Developments’ environmental and community strategies,” said Wayne Dunn on the appointment. “Protecting the livelihood of the communities surrounding Volta Lake and the integrity of the natural ecosystems within the lake is extremely important to fulfilling our collective mission of developing resources in a socially, environmentally, and economically responsible manner.”

Most recently, Moffat structured and negotiated complex land conservation transactions as a land protection specialist with The Nature Conservancy. Prior to that, as an independent consultant, he led preparation of the global international waters assessment report based on the work of 1,500 scientists for the United Nation’s GIWA Programme.

At DEKA R&D Corporation, known for world-leading medical devices, Moffat managed business development for water purification and off-grid power technologies targeting villages in developing countries. As founder and senior advisor of Secretariat for Eastern African Coastal Area Management, he grew capacity building and knowledge sharing programs in environmental assessment and NGO management throughout Eastern Africa. While serving as an environmental specialist at the World Bank, Moffat directed community development and natural resources management projects and programs in Africa, including Ghana.

Moffat earned an MBA from Harvard Business School, where he was co-president of the Sustainable Development Society. He also holds a Masters of Environmental Management from Yale University, and serves as the vice president of the alumni council of the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies, and was awarded a Mellon Grant for environmental research while at the University of Pennsylvania.
