CSR Developments Ships M.V. Kabore to Ghana, West Africa
for First Phase of Green Resource Development Venture
Mill Bay, British Columbia, Canada, June 18, 2007- CSR
Developments, an international developer and supplier
of ecologically responsible and environmentally friendly
tropical hardwoods, announced today that the M.V. Kabore,
the first marine vessel slated for operations in CSR Developments'
Volta Lake project, has arrived in Ghana, West Africa.
The M.V. Kabore will play a critical role as CSR Developments begins
its innovative work on the Volta Lake project, the largest
underwater tropical timber recovery operation ever undertaken.
The 8,600 sq km lake - created in 1964 with the construction
of the Akosombo Dam - contains valuable submerged tropical
timber, including mahogany, odum, wawa, kusia, ceiba and
danta, all waiting to be recovered. These hardwoods are
in pristine condition and are prime material for premium
uses including flooring, veneer, cabinetry and furniture.
More importantly, they represent a "found" timber
resource of significant quantity. Recovering this timber
can reduce the pressure to harvest tropical hardwood rainforests.
The M.V. Kabore, equipped with specially developed technology,
will enable CSR Developments to begin the most complete inventory ever
of a submerged tropical forest. "Kabore" - a West
African name - was chosen as the name of the vessel because
it represents strong leadership and stability.
"CSR Developments greatly values the community and stakeholders
we are working with, including the Ghanaian government,
traditional leaders, local and international environmental
groups, local businesses and communities to name a few.
Our mission is to have a positive impact on the environment,
community, and economy," said Steve Hicks, CSR Developments COO
and CFO.
The involvement of the company's many stakeholders in the Volta
Lake venture - Ghanaian government agencies, the Forest
Research Institute of Ghana, traditional leaders, and other
non-governmental organizations, Ghanaian business alliances,
and investors such as Goldman Sachs and Barclays - is a
testimony to CSR Developments' innovative approach to business. The
co-founders - Wayne Dunn, the Rt. Hon. Joe Clark and Steve
Hicks - set out to build an international company committed
to achieving the Triple Bottom Line, bringing value to all
stakeholders, the environment, and shareholders.
"Call it 'corporate social responsibility' or 'triple
bottom line' - societal capitalism, the practice of investing
in society's prosperity, including, of course, the environment
and ecology, while producing strong financial returns, is
the heart of our business," said Wayne Dunn, CEO and
President. "The Volta Lake venture will prove CSR Developments'
values, vision, and mission."
