Most recently, Joseph Cobbinah was director of the Forestry Research Institute of Ghana (FORIG) for ten years. He has also been an International Council Member of the International Union of Forestry Research Organizations (IUFRO) for more than ten years. He was Africa representative on IUFRO Global Forestry Information Services (GFIS) Task Force and Chairman of the GFIS Africa Project. He has also been Ghana’s representative for the United Nations Commission on Science and Technology for Development (1999-2005).
He has been the chairman and is currently a Programme Leader of plant Resources of Tropical Africa, an initiative to document information on 7,000 useful plants of tropical Africa.
Cobbinah has managed many Ghana Government and International organizations scientific and research projects. His contribution to Forestry and Plant Sciences research is acknowledged through a number of scientific awards and positions.
Joseph Cobbinah was both a Fulbright and a Rockefeller Fellow and holds a PhD in Forest Entomology from the University of Adelaide, Australia.
